Md Sattar, a resident of Bhavani Nagar in Talab Katta, has been asked to appear before the 'inquiry officer' -- a deputy director of UIDIA -- on February 30 at 11 AM.
Amid protest over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Aadhaar authorities summoning a man in Hyderabad and asking him to prove his 'citizenship' has started a fresh row.
Md Sattar, a resident of Bhavani Nagar in Talab Katta, has been asked to appear before the 'inquiry officer', a deputy director of UIDIA, on February 30 at 11 AM.
The notice served to Sattar, under Rule 30 of Aadhaar (enrollment and update), asked Md Sattar to come with 'all the necessary documents in original to prove all your claims of citizenship'.
It also added that in case Sattar is not a citizen of India then he should come up with the proof of his valid entry and stay permission.
The notice which went viral on social media had attracted a sharp reaction from Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi.
"Section 9 of Aadhaar Act says that it isn't proof of citizenship. What legal authority does @UIDAI @UIDAIHyderabad have to demand proof of citizenship? The notices don't even mention the grounds on which they were issued. This is illegal & unacceptable'' AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said.
Md Sattar's lawyer Muzzafar Ali Khan questioned the notice and said he would approach the high court over the issue. He also reminded that as per the Indian government, Aadhaar is not a proof of citizenship.
Muzzafar Ali Khan said his two other clients also got a similar notice from the authority.
On Tuesday, the Hyderabad Police arrested a Yaman national for fraudulently acquiring Indian passport and an Aadhaar card. The foreign national was nabbed from the old city by the Falaknuma Police and arrested under section 420 IPC, Sec 12 of Passport Act 1967, Sec 14.
